About Charitable Treasures Workshop
Mission Statement
Charitable Treasures Workshop provides a supportive and challenging program that teaches workplace competencies to young adults with special needs. The goal of the program is to help special needs adults become valued and productive employees for businesses within our community.
The venues through which these competencies are achieved are as varied and rich as the volunteers that assist the program and include furniture refinishing, sewing, jewelry making, art and many other skills.
Community Needs That Charitable Treasures Workshop Addresses:
- Limited transition services available through school and the community
- Limited number of job opportunities for citizens with special needs because of size of community and lack of public transportation to other communities
- Job opportunities are often exhausted quickly by this population because of lack of job skills
- Lack of job training opportunities for persons with special needs
- Community uninformed about the extent of the issue
- Employers are not knowledgeable about working with employees with special needs
- Special needs employees quite often need special working arrangements and patience which doesn’t always match the needs of employers
- Jobs that are available to this population are quite often not challenging
